Really enjoyed this one. The MMR innoculation discussion was very interesting. I had done some research prior to getting our daughter the shot and in the end my wife and I decided to do it. From what I’d’ read, it was my understanding that the time of the child’s life when the vaccination is given, is coincidentally close to the time in which children are diagnosed.
Have you considered that Autism may just be the next step in human evolution? In the States, one of the highest rates of Autism cases per capita is in the Silicon Valley area of California. Home to the children of some of the brightest analytical minds on the planet.
It’s an interesting point. I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s the next stage in human evolution. Autism to a large degree, is a lack of the ability to read social cues and suchlike. Whether that stems from a different brain make-up or whether its what’s been described to me before as ‘extreme male-ness’, I don’t know. However, I do worry when tests for autism become common, as I’m sure they will, whether people choosing not to have autistic babies might result in a great deal of extremely intelligent people not being born…
